Earring Holder!

I found a cool little framed screen while thrifting one day.  I have no idea what it's original purpose was, but I knew just what I wanted to do with it.  I'm sure you know where I'm going with this...yep, an earring holder.  I pondered whether or not I should paint it but decided that I really kinda of liked the worn wood look of it.  I attached it to the wall with little velcro circles and easily hung it next to my free standing jewelry cabinet.  Have you seen those velcro circles from 3M?  Love them!  I will be using them for some labels on my fabric totes soon.

Here is the screen before I hung it

and all decorated with my dangling pretty stuff...

New Camera!

I just had to post a little something today about my new camera!  Yes, I finally did it!  I bought a Canon Rebel T3, my first SLR.  The picture quality is so amazing compared to my old Canon point and shoot.  I can't wait to show you all some much improved photos!  For now you'll have to wait...

I'm going to reshoot a few photos I had already taken for my next blog post.  I'm looking forward to taking it on my mini-road trip next weekend to the Sumpter, Oregon flea market (if we make it).

Ch-Ch-Ch Changes....

Today I feel like venting.  Have you ever felt like you just wanted to change everything about your house?  Ever get frustated with a lack of time or money to do the things you dream of doing?  Well, me too! I think it's also the curse of a somewhat Type A personality who is also very creative. I get frustrated because I don't have the time or energy (or $$) to do all the projects around the house I really want to do.  I try to remember to give myself a break and that I only finished radiation just over two months ago...but still!  I want to paint my livingroom walls and my kitchen cabinets and do some crafting and work on a long list of other projects.

I have actually made some progress on the kitchen, just getting it organized so that I can begin to think about looking for my paint color for the cabinets.  My craft storage space upstairs has been abandoned for a few weeks and I haven't done a thing with it.  I'll get back to it soon, I hope.

In the meantime, let's talk about the weekend!  I'm participating in the Race for the Cure tomorrow for the first time, and as a survivor...I will also be getting out of bed at O'Dark Thirty!!!  On Sunday I'm treating my Mom to lunch and then we're going to spend some girl time doing a little shopping.  We love doing that together and always have a good time.  I'm blessed to be able to spend the day with her, I love my Momma!  I hope you all have a great weekend and don't forget to do some of this.....zzzzz.

France!

Hey Everyone! I'm so excited to be rounding out the week and am so ready for the weekend.  My little brother Rob is in France right now, staying with a friend.  He is in Lyon and will be tromping around Paris in about a week.  He's been there since April 15th!  Heavenly right?  Ah... to be young and sans a mortgage, haha.  He recently posted pictures of his visit to the Musee des beaux-arts de Lyon and took some great photos which I've highjacked right from is Facebook page and posted for your enjoyment here.  This is the Museum he visited, which has a rich history all its own:

Here are some of the pictures of amazing art:  Matisse, Picasso, Monet.  It's fun to know that he is in the country that our great grandfather was born in and where much of our ancestry lies going back to Louis the "whatever" (can't quite recall) but it's been traced back to the Kings of France who at one time of course, resided in the Palace that is now the Louve.  My great grandfather immigrated to America in 1881 as a boy.  He was born in Paris and lived at some point in Lyon.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these priceless works of art as much as I have!

Vanity Makeover!

I took a little time off last weekend and decided I would tackle the vanity in the powder room.  It's been builder grade oak since we moved in and I've hated since then too!

Here's what the vanity looked like before.

I found a can of "oops" paint at Lowe's a few weeks ago and decided that it would be great for the vanity.  Once I painted it, it looked pretty white and I was really going for more of a off-white.  I ended up doing a glaze technique on it with acrylic craft paint!

I also decided the builder grade mirror on clips had to go as well!

I painted the walls (the brown is Ralph Lauren, Sand Heather).

How about the new mirror?  I found this at Home Goods for about $40.  I love it because it's different.

Here's the vanity! I wish the picture wasn't so dark!  What do you think?

At some point I will replace the countertop but for now I will be upgrading the faucet with an ORB one to match the light.  Future plans also include new flooring, but this room is where the dog door is so with Maggie running in and out all the time it works. Once I finished up this project I started working on my craft room.  I'm making good progress and hope to share that with all of you in the coming weeks!

Maggie's Birthday!

I'm sure you're reading this and thinking that maybe you'll see some great decorating ideas for a girl's birthday party or some fancy cupcakes....not even close my friends!!  I don't have kids but I do have a boxer who is the canine love of my life!  She is turning 5 on Sunday.  I think I'm more her "person" than she is my dog, but oh well...it works for both of us.  I thought I'd share some pictures of my girl today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
